You didn't leave your contact information, but it would be fun to talk more.  There are a lot of us working on molecular tools for driving or reading out information from neural circuits.  Molecular tools, in particular, offer certain kinds of precision, and the ability to target specific cells or chemicals -- something that most electrical means do not currently allow.

Earlier my colleagues and I had a paper on a molecular means of enabling neurons to become sensitive to light (which was blogged on neurodudes earlier, at

And a lot of interest in activating, inactivating, or otherwise modulating neural circuits is emerging.
